Product Care

Start with the care label or instructions supplied with your item. The advice below is general; the finish and construction of an individual piece can change how it should be cleaned.

Everyday cleaning

Use a soft, clean cloth and start with the gentlest method. Test any cleaner on a hidden area first.
Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals and soaking unless the product instructions specifically allow them.
Dry items after wiping and protect surfaces from standing water, direct heat and prolonged strong sunlight.

Stone, wood and metal

Dust stone and wood with a soft cloth. Where the finish permits, use a barely damp cloth for marks and dry immediately. Keep acidic cleaners away from natural stone. Do not polish or strip a metal finish unless the product instructions recommend it; brass-coloured finishes are not necessarily solid brass.

Ceramics and glass

Handle carefully and avoid sudden temperature changes. Decorative vases, trays and bowls are not automatically suitable for food or drinking water. Do not assume an item is dishwasher, microwave or oven safe: use those appliances only where the individual product instructions confirm suitability.

Throws and cushion covers

Follow the sewn-in care label for washing, drying and ironing. Blot spills rather than rubbing them. A listing for a cushion cover does not include an insert unless the product description says it does.

Clocks, fittings and wall-mounted pieces

Follow the supplied instructions for batteries, assembly and mounting. Use fixings appropriate to your wall and the item’s weight; ask a qualified installer if you are unsure. Keep loose fittings and batteries away from children. Stop using an item if a part is damaged or loose.

For any electrical item, disconnect the power safely and let it cool before cleaning. Keep liquids away from electrical components and leave hardwired work to a qualified electrician.
